What We Offer

New NEC handheld PC offers power and portability

One of the computing world’s hottest topics this year is mobility. Recent advances in hardware, software, and connectivity, have paved the way for enterprise computing to make its way out of the office and into people’s pockets.

Devices like cell phones and PDAs claim to offer PC-like features in a convenient portable package — but the reality is that many of these devices fall far short of meeting enterprise requirements for usefulness and ruggedness. The exception? The NEC MobilePro 790, a handheld PC offering a true mobile computing solution for in-the-field professionals.

Wireless LAN Solutions in High Gear

When it comes to networking, there are few environments more demanding than the trackside operations of a MotoGP 500 motorcycle racing team. That is why the Tech 3 team has picked NEC to provide wireless networking solutions to its team of engineer.

2001 marks Tech 3’s entrance into 500cc racing, after taking first and second place last year in the 250cc category. World Champion Olivier Jacque and runner-up Shinya Nakano will fly the Tech 3 colors as they try to make their mark on the Formula One of motorcycle racing.

While the increased freedom of movement and easy deployment of wireless LANs are appealing, they present a new challenge in terms of network design. Laying out an optimized wireless LAN requires administrators to take into account both coverage and interference issues.

Until now, the only ways to design wireless LANs were by trial and error or using special radio propagation software. The latter is expensive and complicated, which means it is not adapted to the needs of most business users; it requires powerful hardware and take days to produce accurate results.

Wireless LAN Solutions

Wireless networking has well and truly arrived. What began as an expensive and unpredictable technology is today a cost effective way of providing LAN networking to workers who spend most of their time in meetings and groups rather than alone at their desks.

The standard that is best suited to enterprise use is called IEEE 802.11. The current version-802.11b-uses the 2.4GHz radio frequency to establish a LAN running at speeds up to 11 Mbps. In the near future, version 802.11a promises 54 Mbps bandwidth in the 5GHz range.
